Pāua also known as Abalone shells have natural phosphorescent beauty. In New Zealand, Pāua is traditionally associated with the stars or whetū, the symbolic eyes of ancestors that gaze down from the night sky.
 
Pāua brings with it a shielding that blesses the person holding it with tranquility, highlighted by the way the shell reflects the light.
